A former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a post on X, he wrote: "I learned about the arrest of Sowore. I appeal that he should be treated with honor and dignity; and his constitutional rights be fully respected."

Sowore, a human rights activist was detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Sunday, September 15.

His flight left Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT and arrived in Lagos at around 9.43 am.

The DSS picked him up at the airport immediately upon his arrival in Nigeria.

But in a post on his X handle on Sunday, Sani appealed to the DSS to treat Sowore with honour and dignity and respect his constitutional rights.

Sowore was released minutes after his arrest.
