Former presidential spokesperson of the Labour Party, Doyin Okupe, has shared his thoughts on the nature of politics in Nigeria.

In a social media post, Okupe asserted that in politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests.

He emphasized that there is no room for rabid passion, fanaticism, insults, and abuses in politics, as repeated failures, jeopardy of interests, pain, shame, and ignominy are the consequences of not adhering to the established tenets of politics.

Okupe wrote:

POLITICS 101: In this game, there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.

POLITICS 102: If a friend was disagreeable yesterday but can still serve your interest tomorrow, he remains a friend.

POLITICS 103: In this game of politics, there is no room for rabid passion, fanaticism, insults, and abuses. Caution, restraint, courtesy, diplomacy, temperance, and tolerance are always profitable to employ.

POLITICS 104: Repeated failures, jeopardy of interests, pain, shame, and ignominy are the consequences of not adhering to the above three established tenets of politics. IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW. IF YOU DON’T, THEN PREPARE TO LEARN.

On his X page on July 15, 2024, Okupe shared a photo of his former political associate, Peter Obi, and Professor Wole Soyinka during a visit in 2023.

His post comes after Obi allegedly failed to publicly wish Wole Soyinka, who turned 90-years-old, a happy birthday on Saturday, July 13.

Recall that Soyinka had previously called out Peter Obi and expressed dissatisfaction with his supporters, popularly known as Obidients.
