A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Fouad Oki has revealed that President Bola Tinubu attempted to solve the crisis that ultimately led to the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he said the president tried to resolve the crisis in the Lagos State Assembly but Obasa was recalcitrant.
That, he said, finally put the final nail in the coffin for the Lagos lawmaker who was eventually impeached and replaced by Mojisola Meranda.
“Before the president came home, this issue had been lingering. In the wisdom of members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the president’s attention was called,” Oki said on the show.
“The president, as father and leader, called a meeting wherein he tried to make a sense out of the observations raised by elders of the party. Unfortunately, the president saw by himself a recalcitrant [Obasa]. I think that is what broke the camel’s back.”
Oki also justified the dismissal of Obasa saying that the move to dismiss him was long overdue. According to him, Obasa was impeached on Monday over allegations of fraud.
Mojisola Miranda has since been sworn in as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Meranda of Apapa 1 constituency was sworn in on Monday immediately after Obasa's impeachment.
