Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed confidence in Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s ability to lead the state despite his feud with his predecessor Nyesom Wike.

Jonathan made these comments while attending an exhibition held at Nihi Community in Etche Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The former president urged the residents of Rivers State to support Governor Fubara to ensure peace and development.

Jonathan asked Fubara not to be worried by the political drama against his administration but encouraged him to remain dedicated to his duties and ensure his governance is not distracted.

“I know you are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet. I don’t like to say certain things."

“This is your first time holding a top political office, and you will face many challenges. But remember, no one becomes a General without fighting wars.

“The challenges you’re encountering now are shaping you to be a General in politics. With your dedication and the support I’ve witnessed from the people of Rivers State, God will guide you through.”

“We desire a peaceful Rivers State because it is the heart of the Niger Delta. I always make it clear that any serious disturbance in Rivers State will lead to a crisis in the Niger Delta, which will harm our national economy.

“We need a peaceful Rivers State. We want the governor to be allowed to carry out his duties calmly. After his tenure, another will take over.

“In political office, there are defined tenures. We don’t need to fight over political positions. Let those in office do their work, and when their time is up, other things will unfold.”

Fubara, in response, expressed gratitude for the recognition and the chieftaincy title. He declared that his administration would continue to provide essential projects and social services to improve the lives of the people.
