Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, says former President Muhammadu Buhari forced him into joining the governorship race in 2015.

El-Rufai made this known in a no-holds-barred interview on Arise Prime Time on Monday, February 24.

According to him, he had never been an individual who was thirsty for political office, describing himself as a "worker" who knows how to get things done for political office holders.

Citing an example to buttress his point, the former FCT Minister recounted how Muhammadu Buhari convinced him to join the race after he had previously rejected the idea.

He revealed that he never had any political ambitions and accidentally joined the political scene when he was introduced to it by the late Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

He said: "Actually, I've never had an ambition in politics. Look, President Buhari, and you can ask him anytime, more or less forced me to run for governor of Kaduna State. I was afraid of running because I'd never run for office. I am a worker, Charles. People go and run for office, and they have a difficult assignment like me who gets it done."

"Myself, Ngozi, Oby, are not people who will stand on a podium and tell people to vote for us. We are not like that. That's not our training. That's not our inclination. But after we formed the APC, I was in the National Executive Committee. I was Deputy National Secretary, and we were preparing for the 2015 elections. President Buhari called me and said, go and run for governor. I said, no, sir. I don't have those skill sets. My skill sets are technocratic. He said, no."

"Go. We had three conversations before I accepted."
