Hushpuppi gained notoriety for his lavish lifestyle, often posting pictures and videos of himself with exotic cars, designer clothes, and luxury watches.

However, his glamorous life was eventually exposed as a facade. Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai in June 2020 and extradited to the United States, where he was charged with conspiracy to launder money obtained from business email compromise frauds and other scams.
