Barau I. Jibrin is a prominent Nigerian politician who has been the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate since June 13, 2023. Born on June 19, 1959, in Kano State, he has been representing the Kano North Senatorial District since 2015.
Before his tenure in the Senate, Jibrin was a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 20033. Jibrin has been a significant power broker in Kano politics.
He was initially interested in running for the governorship of Kano State but was not fielded as the candidate by his party.
Despite this, he has remained influential in the political landscape. His leadership is seen as pivotal, especially as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, where he predicts a strong showing for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano.
