Philip Shaibu, born on December 1, 1969, is a Nigerian accountant and politician who served as the deputy governor of Edo State from 2016 until his impeachment in 2024. Before his tenure as deputy governor, he represented Etsako in the Federal House of Representatives from 2015 to 2016 and was a member of the Edo State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015. His political career reflects a consistent presence in Nigerian politics, marked by various roles and affiliations.

Shaibu was born in Kaduna to a Christian family, with his upbringing influenced by his parents, the late Pastor Francis Osikpomobo Shaibu and Lucy Momoh. He began his education at St. Augustine Primary School and completed it at L.E.A Primary School Barnawa in Kaduna State. He then attended Saudana Memorial Secondary School, Kawo, Kaduna, where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate in 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Jos in 2000, during which he served as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) from 2000 to 2001. Shaibu furthered his education with a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin in 2015.

Shaibu’s political journey began in 2003 when he ran for a seat in the Edo State House of Assembly under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but did not succeed. In 2007, he won the election to represent Etsako West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly under the Action Congress (AC) platform. Throughout his career, he has been affiliated with several political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), showcasing his adaptability and resilience in the political arena.

On a personal note, Philip Shaibu is married to Mrs. Maryann Philip-Shaibu, and they have children together. Despite facing significant challenges during his tenure, including his impeachment, Shaibu remains a notable figure in Nigerian politics, known for his dedication and service to his constituents.
