Mai Mala Buni, born on November 19, 1967, in Buni Yadi, Gujba, Yobe State, Nigeria, is a Nigerian politician serving as the governor of Yobe State since 2019. He began his education by memorizing the Quran and later attended Buni Gari Central Primary School and Government Secondary School Goniri. Buni holds a B.Sc. degree in International Relations from Espan Formation University (Benin Republic) and a master's degree in International Relations from Leeds Beckett University (United Kingdom).

Before his political career, Buni ventured into business, leveraging his family's background in trade and transport. He established several companies, including MBG Integrated Farms Ltd, MMB Petroleum and Chemical Company Nig. Ltd, and MBG Construction and General Services Ltd. His business acumen provided a strong foundation for his later political endeavors.

Buni's political journey began in 1992 when he won a councilor seat under the National Republican Convention (NRC), representing Buni Ward in Gujba Local Government Area Council. He served as the speaker of the council and later became a senior legislative assistant in Nigeria's National Assembly. From 2014 to 2019, Buni was the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was elected governor in the 2019 Nigeria general elections and also served as the caretaker chairman of the APC, playing a crucial role in party affairs.
