Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is a prominent Nigerian politician who is the current Nigerian minister of budget and economic planning. He was born on December 26, 1961. Bagudu hails from Kebbi State and has served in various political capacities. He served as governor of Kebbi State from 2015 to 2023 and served as the senate representing the Kebbi Central senatorial district from 2009 to 2015.
Bagudu was born and raised in Kebbi State, where he completed his early education. He attended Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Furthering his education, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Jos and a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs from Columbia University in New York.
In 2015, Bagudu's political career reached a new height when he was elected as the Governor of Kebbi State. As governor, he prioritized agricultural development, economic empowerment, and infrastructure improvement. His administration launched the Anchor Borrowers' Programme in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, which significantly boosted rice production in the state, earning Kebbi the nickname "Rice Bowl of Nigeria."
