Heartland Football Club is a Nigerian professional footbal club based in Owerri, Imo State. Heartland Football Club began as Spartans FC in 1976. Their inaugural international match was a friendly against Ararat Yerevan from the USSR in August 1976, which Spartans won 2–0 at Township Stadium in Owerri.

In 1985, Spartans FC underwent a name change and became Iwuanyanwu Nationale FC after a change in ownership from the Imo State Government to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. The club went on a three-week training tour of Brazil in January 1986. During that season, Nationale achieved second place in the Nigerian top league.

On 7 February 2006, the Imo State Government re-acquired ownership of the club from Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and renamed it Heartland FC.

Throughout its existence, Heartland FC has competed in various domestic and continental competitions, showcasing its prowess on both fronts. The club has won several domestic titles, including the Nigerian Premier League and the Nigerian FA Cup, solidifying its status as a powerhouse in Nigerian football.
