The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has warned Nigerians against making use of unauthorised kits to test for coronavirus.
In a statement by the Medial Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and shared by the health agency's Twitter handle, it said no rapid test kits for coronavirus has been validated for mass use
It also warned Nigerians to stay away from adulterated and unauthorised test kits.
"The council has not validated or approved any COVID-19 Rapid Test Kit, RTL for use till date," a statement from the council read.
However, it promised to collaborate with the Health Ministry and NCDC to validate Rapid Test Kits for mass screening of COVID-19.
All importers of these kits were advised to submit their testing kits for validation to enable the NCDC validate them.
Till then, the agency advised people to wash their hands with water and stay safe at home.
We continue to work closely with our sister agency @MedLabNigeria, to ensure that only validated diagnostic methods for #COVID19 are used in Nigeria https://t.co/kiRuTxvoI7
