People argue who is Nigeria's foremost Yoruba rapper- some link it to Lord of Ajasa and to 9ice, the singer. Personally, Dagrin stands out for me. What he delivers is exceptional premium rap in Yoruba music.
In Dagrin's time, rapping in Yoruba became a thing of fun. Most early Nigerian rap acts were English inclined.
Sadly his reign was shortlived. Shortlived enough to win the Hip hop World Award 2010 for best rap album.
Rising to fame with the legendary singles "Pon Pon Pon", and "Kondo," Dagrin showed promise, character and revolution of the industry.
10yrs ago today, we lost a young and super talented icon, Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, also known as DaGrin. He initiated and paved the way for the street style & sounds you hear today. Rest on King. ???????????????????? #Dagrin10yrs #DaGrin pic.twitter.com/uaxUfdcevJ

10 years after his death, tons of indigenous rappers- not just Yoruba, Igbo and even Hausa entertainers have dominated the Nigerian scene.
While the details of his death would continually remain a mystery, Dagrin's legendary status on 4/22 will forever be sustained.
