Popular singer, Timi Dakolo has called out Pastor Femi Lazarus for allegedly charging $150 for his ministry school despite criticizing gospel singers who do the same.

His criticism of the cleric comes after a viral video of the lead pastor of Light Nation Church disclosing the extravagant terms of engagement set by a popular gospel musician in Nigeria.

Lazarus disclosed this in a sermon that has since gone viral on social media. While he concealed parts of the document to avoid revealing the artist’s identity, he read out details that showed the musician demanded no less than $10,000 for a performance.

In response, Dakolo took to social media to call out the pastor, accusing him of hypocrisy. He questioned why Lazarus would criticize gospel artists for charging fees while allegedly profiting from his own ministry school.

“All this was said in love and with respect, sir. I am not a gospel artist but a Christian raised in church. Let’s not shift the goalpost. By your definition, if anyone charges to minister, they are not gospel artists but performers,” Dakolo wrote.

He continued, “And by that definition, if any preacher charges to teach and minister, they are merchants of hope, motivational speakers, and performers too. Sir, you are charging as low as $150 per person for your school of ministry, teaching and preaching Jesus, possibly with as many as 1,000 students. Let’s do the math. You even have premium and standard tiers for God’s house? Are you not selling the gift and revelation freely given to you? Again, let’s not keep shifting the goalpost.”

The debate has sparked conversations online, with many weighing in on the ethical implications of charging fees for ministry and gospel performances.
