Gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey has weighed in on the ongoing debate about paying gospel musicians for church performances.

While some pastors have expressed their concerns about this issue, some entertainers have disagreed with the pastors who oppose payment for gospel artistes.

During a church programme, Nathaniel Bassey explained his decision not to charge churches for his ministry.

He believes that his ministry is a personal consecration and a calling from God.

He said, “If a church invites me to minister, they are doing two things. First, come and minister to God and his people. My own understanding is when you say to me, come and minister to God, I can’t charge God to minister to him. How much did he charge me for his blood on calvary? The blood that is the very reason for my ministry. So, it’s a personal consecration and it has worked for me. So, why leave what is working. If I share some of my testimonies, some people will be jealous. I am a living testimony by God’s grace of what it means to be on God’s payroll. So, my question is what has God called you to do?”
