The Student Union of Lagos State University (LASU) has rubbished claims of an alleged attack on the manager of singer Shoday.
The alleged incident happened when Shoday was invited to perform at the Mr and Miss LASU Fresher party held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the university's auditorium, LASU main campus, Ojo.
After the event, Shoday took to social media with an allegation that his team was assaulted at the school.
"Lets not talk about how they cut of power to interrupt my set, or how the school security personnel’s couldn’t call their students to order! Or how hooligans disguises as student to extort me, they assaulted members of my team," he shared on X.
Reacting via a statement jointly signed by the Public Relations Officer, Asikoto Mauyon, and the student union's President, Adebobola Ayomide, the union described the claim as not only mischievous but misinformation tantamount to misleading and misguiding the general public.
The union said, "For the record, The event unfolded with Shoday's late arrival, which was a result of his negligence. This disrupted the scheduled program, and despite our efforts to accommodate him, his tardiness set a negative note for the rest of the evening.
"Furthermore, as it is customary, the university has a stipulated time for the closure of all events on campus, Once it's 6pm the generator automatically goes off. This was communicated to the artist and his team prior to the event.
"Regrettably, during Shoday's performance, his manager pushed the students' union social director, Leon, down on the stage. This incident sparked anger among the students, who expressed their discontent through noise. However, the university's security personnel promptly intervened and brought the situation under control, ensuring that the occurrence did not escalate further."
The union also addressed Shoday's claim that when his team managed to leave the school premises, some boys "followed us outside the school! Crazy scene! They’re even proud to say we did this to Seyi Vibez, we pursued Odumodu and so many. These boys even tried to take the riffle from my security personnel."
The union said all through the incident, it ensured Shoday's safety through a security team that escorted him off the campus premises.
"We take the safety and security of our students, guests, and performers seriously and we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises this.
"It's imperative to note that any incidents that may have transpired outside the campus premises, Involving unknown hooligans are not within our jurisdiction or knowledge. Consequent upon the foregoing, we urge the general public to disregard the false and sensationalized reports circulating on social media," the union concluded.
