Nigerian singer, Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has advised his colleagues in the music industry to stop fighting to have the number 1 songs on streaming platforms.
He stated that most songs numbers do not guarantee them greater success, citing an example with an artiste named Killer Mike, a four-time Grammy Winner whom many have yet to hear about or see his songs at the top of streaming platforms.
He urged them to focus on their crafts, rather than stressing about the numbers, adding that most songs’ numbers on some streaming platforms don’t correlate with others.
“Leave social media algorithms, focus on your craft. Have you ever heard of a guy called Killer Mike, guess not … 4 times Grammy winner.
“Stop chasing number 1 song , it’s meh now = everything can be controlled…. Most of those songs numbers no dey correlate on other platforms… check,” he wrote.
Kizz Daniel went on to say that he is not against the use of bots to boost streams as it’s a form of marketing but mentioned that it isn’t for established artistes.
The “Marhaba” crooner clarifies that his post was not to shade any musician but meant to encourage up-and-coming artistes not to be swayed by the numbers of streaming platforms.
“Farming isn’t a crime, it’s marketing … for placement and all …. But na for who get the money.
“We ain’t shading anybody here before una start, just tryna push the new generation to drop those hidden gems… I won learn,” Daniel wrote.
His comment comes after the buzz surrounding whose latest song make it to the top of the list. This has been a major battle between artistes like Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.
Recently, there have been some concerns raised among fans of Wizkid after his latest single 'Dance' disappeared from Apple Music Nigeria Top 100.
Many wonder if it is a penalty for streaming manipulation or a glitch from Apple Music.
