Popular Nigerian vocalist Simisola Bolatito Kosoko widely known as Simi, has given parents training tips for their daughters.

In a video posted to her Instagram page, the singer counselled parents to train their daughters to be independent and take charge of their financial destiny.

Simi encouraged parents to raise their daughters to be independent of males, even as she scoffed at the idea of some parents hoping for their daughters to marry a wealthy man.

She said, “Parents raise your daughters to be self-sufficient and not to think that when they grow up, all they have to do is rely on someone to take care of them.

There is security in being independent. A woman’s economic power is in fending for herself and being able to confidently acknowledge that she’s a complete person. Let them know that you are standing strong."

Many social media users concurred with the singer, citing that it was always prudent for parents to teach their daughters to be self-dependent.
