The Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) has revealed the reason it didn't put the popular and controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, alias Bobrisky, in the general cell.
Testifying at the House of Representatives hearing in Abuja on Monday, September 30, Michael Anuga, an NCoS official in charge of Kirikiri Medium Security Facility, told the Green chamber that they placed Bobrisky in protective custody because he had special feminine features.
He said, “Bobrisky has some special features like breasts. If we put him in the general cell, we would have to ensure his safety due to the presence of convicted rapists and sodomites."
He explained that a medical professional was brought in and certified that Bobrisky indeed had breasts.
"With this admission, the board had a meeting to discuss the best way to manage him. We decided to place him in protective custody. Bobrisky spent his time in B-ward room 2 of the facility, alone in that particular room. We did this to adhere to international best practices and our laws."
Benson explained that Bobrisky was later moved from the Medium Security Correctional Facility to the Maximum Security facility for his safety. He noted that the decision was made in his absence by his superior.
During the House of Representatives hearing, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Service were questioned over allegations that Bobrisky bribed them following his conviction and sentencing for abuse of the naira in April.
Both the EFCC and NCoS officials denied the bribery allegations. The EFCC denied claims that Bobrisky paid N15 million to have money laundering charges dropped, while the NCoS insisted that Bobrisky served his term at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre and not in a private apartment as alleged.
Bobrisky was convicted on April 5, 2024, by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
