Popular Ghanaian gospel singer Ohemaa Mercy sparked controversy on social media when she revealed why she divorced her husband, Mr. Twum-Ampofo.

The singer explained that the breakup was not hasty and that it was the result of careful consideration and prayer in an open interview with media personality, Cookie Tee on TV3.

Ohemaa Mercy made it clear that she sought God's guidance before making the decision.

She said, “I didn’t just get up one day and decide to divorce my husband. I took it to God in prayer. I was committed to doing the Lord’s work, and I knew marriage was somewhat going to hinder it. So I sought His permission and approval before deciding to divorce him."

Ohemaa Mercy acknowledged that she started the divorce when asked if it was her idea, emphasizing that it was a mutually agreeable decision.

She added, “We came to a mutual agreement about going our separate ways, and he agreed."
