The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Dr. Idara Bassey in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman during a buttock enlargement procedure at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1.
The incident came to light last Tuesday when Abiola's driver reported to the Maroko Police Division at around 11:40 am. The nurse who administered the injection, allegedly on Dr. Bassey's orders, was arrested shortly after.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, confirmed on September 3 that Dr. Bassey is now under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.
Dr. Bassey had fled after Abiola died during the procedure on August 26, 2024. Abiola had left her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, and instructed her driver to take her to the clinic for the procedure.
According to the driver, Abiola lost consciousness and began gasping for breath after the nurse administered the injection.
When asked about potential charges against Dr. Bassey, Hundeyin stated that more information would be available after the investigation is complete.
