Veteran Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has stood behind colleague, Toyin Abraham in the face of his colleague's silence regarding the actress' struggles with trolls.
The fact that Toyin Abraham was harassed and mocked on the internet for detaining one of her trolls and holding him for a while in police custody is no longer news.
A troll claimed that the actress was holding his mother, which the actress refuted by saying that the mother in question had refused to leave the police station because of her son's incarceration.
Saidi Balogun responded to the news by criticizing people who continued to harass Toyin Abraham despite their own mistakes.
The politician-turned-actor asserted that while everyone called the police to have their neighbours arrested for minor infractions when a celebrity was involved, the situation was treated as bullying.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues who are being subjected to emotional blackmail due to their celebrity status, Balogun argued that if internet users are free to express themselves, they should also be allowed to act without fear of repercussions.
He said, “You use police to arrest your neighbours for the most minor reasons, e reach celebrity turn, you say it’s bully.
"Stop the emotional blackmail. Celebrities are human, just like you. You are free to say what you like, right? Let celebrities be free to take whatever actions they want to protect their mental space. Freedom should not be selective. God bless”
