Ghanaian rap maestro Sarkodie has dismissed rumors of a rift with Nigerian music giants Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, emphasizing his respect for their artistry.

The controversy ignited when Sarkodie's track 'Brag' seemed to assert his seniority in the music scene over the Afrobeats stars.

This led to a lyrical battle between his protégé, Lyrical Joe, and Davido's signee, Dremo, with both artists releasing diss tracks.

In a recent interview with RODE, Sarkodie clarified that his lyrics were not meant as a slight but rather to underscore his enduring presence in the industry.

He pointed out that if his intention were to challenge anyone, it would be his fellow rappers, not singers.

He said: “Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido would never think I want to jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers.

“I am just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there and who else is best to use as reverence? Everybody knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Asake and Davido. And it’s true that I was in the industry before they all came in. It’s just references of how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artists.”
