In a candid revelation, veteran Nigerian singer Daddy Showkey has shared a harrowing account of his brush with death during his involvement with gang activities in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Recalling the fateful incident, Showkey described how a discovery of a firearm at a local refuse dump led him and a group of youths to engage in acts of intimidation. Their reign of terror was short-lived, however, as they were eventually captured and faced the threat of being lynched by the community.

In an emotional segment of the forthcoming 'The Honest Bunch' podcast episode, Showkey recounted the tense moments when he and his associates were bound and on the verge of being set on fire, only to be rescued in what he describes as a miraculous turn of events. Tragically, he disclosed that one member of his group was not as fortunate and was later lynched.

Reflecting on his journey to becoming a music icon, Daddy Showkey expressed a message of resilience and hope. Despite a tumultuous upbringing marked by violence and near-death experiences, he achieved legendary status in the music industry. He emphasized that his life story serves as a testament to the possibility of triumph over adversity.

He stated, “I was in a gang back in the day. I won’t lie. Some of us found a gun where we used to pick valuables from refuse dump in Ikorodu. We started using the gun to terrorise the area.

He continued, “One day, when we were out in our usual style, someone saw us and started screaming, ‘thieves, thieves, thieves.’ Then we started running, but we were apprehended. They tied us up. They were about to burn us but we were saved miraculously.

“I am a living testimony for every young person, because if I can be alive today and still become Daddy Showkey, then there’s hope for everyone.”
