Controversial Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decision to halt the 0.5% cybersecurity levy.
The directive was given during a lengthy Federal Executive Council meeting.
Known for his unwavering support of the president, Yul Edochie took to social media to express his happiness over the news.
He wrote: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man who listens to his people, and I am honored to stand by him. Through thick and thin, I am #Asiwaju Boy.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued the suspension order on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, according to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
Following the FEC meeting on Tuesday, the Minister made this revelation at the State House in Abuja.
He continued by stating that the FEC meeting delved into the cybersecurity levy in great detail and that the president is aware of Nigerians' sentiments.
Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) mandated a 0.5 percent "Cybersecurity Levy" deduction on electronic transactions in a circular released on May 6.
All banks and providers of payment services in the nation received the circular, which was sent by Uzoma Efobi, Director of Payment Services.
The deductions were supposed to start "within the next two weeks," according to the note.
