There is a growing concern raised over the use of content creations to engage in prostitution.
With the increasing number of content creators in the country, a new trend known as βGet Ready With Meβ (GRWM) has emerged. This popular social media hashtag involves individuals posting their videos or series of photos showing the process of getting ready for an event or activity
While some content creators use the GRWM trend to showcase their daily routines, fashion or makeup skills, inspire others with creative ideas, and share tips, others have been seen revealing their nakedness in the process of producing content.
In these viral videos, women are often shown waking up from bed half-naked, getting dressed while attempting to cover their bodies from the camera, leaving very little to the imagination.
These trends have sparked widespread condemnation due to the lack of respect for the culture and traditions of the Nigerian people. Many question why nakedness seems to be a part of their content creation.
Although the use of social media to create content has grown significantly in Nigeria and is widely recognized, it is also seen as an avenue to generate income.
Nigeria has produced several content creators, including chefs, showcasing their travel journeys, activities at school, visits to restaurants and other tourist sites.
All of these contents are monetized and informative to their numerous audiences.
Some Nigerians have taken to X to condemn the explicit and unattractive GRWM video contents they have come across.
According to them, many young ladies involved in these contents are using the trend to advertise themselves negatively, an act they find unappealing.
Here are a few GRWM videos that raised concerns.
