Bose Ogulu, the mother of Afrobeat star Burna Boy, recently shared how her childhood experiences with the legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti influenced her career path.
During an interview on Famouz TV, Ogulu discussed how that experience provided her with valuable insights into artist management.
She noted that she was mature enough to realize that the responsibilities of management extend beyond those of the artist, including tasks such as paying band members and managing other logistics.
Ogulu mentioned that her father, who was Fela’s manager at the time, was the one in charge because the crew depended on him rather than Fela.
She highlighted the critical role of effective management for artists, emphasizing that these early lessons have had a significant impact on her own work as an artist manager today.
in her words, "I think, I spent a very short time growing around them. I was a baby baby. But I was old enough to realize that the manager was more responsible than the artiste. And the responsibilities; the owners of keeping the band members paid, and all of that was the manager, not the artiste, because I saw them never going to Fela for anything, they came to my father"
