'Taking care of your woman makes you a responsible man' - Uzor Arukwe

Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has dismissed the notion that men who take care of their partners or wives should be labeled as "simps," a term commonly used on social media.

Arukwe shared his perspective in a post on X amid ongoing discussions surrounding the success of the latest movie Love in Every Word.

The term "simp" is internet slang used to describe individuals—mostly men—who show excessive sympathy and attention toward another person, often someone who does not reciprocate their feelings, in pursuit of affection or a romantic relationship.

Responding to commentary on his role in the film, Arukwe stated: "Taking care of your woman and spending money on her doesn’t make you a simp. It only makes you a responsible man. How else do you show love to your partner if you can’t take care of their needs from the abundance of your wealth?"

The highly discussed film was directed by Stanley Obi and produced by Omoni Oboli and Tomi Adeoya.

Love in Every Word follows the story of Chioma (BamBam), a hardworking woman who ends a relationship weighed down by financial irresponsibility. She later meets Chief Obiora (Uzor Arukwe), a wealthy and self-assured Igbo businessman who not only showers her with love and generosity but also remains steadfast in his commitment to be with her.
