Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy is of the believe that the Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka is suffering from “brain deterioration”.
He said this following some remarks made by the learned elder statesman about the Nigerian youth and the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Soyinka had said in an interview that Obi was unfit to be president and that he was convinced that he encouraged his supporters, the Obidients to attack him on social media.
He said, “I hope for the sake of the nation that he doesn’t express interest in the next election because for me as a leader, if there was any proof that he was unfit to lead that country, it’s in the conduct which he encouraged among his followers.
“I know for a fact that he was in control of those forces.”
Reacting to his comment, Charly Boy tackled him saying Soyinka’s recent action suggest deteriorating brain disease.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, he wrote:
"Prof. Wole Soyinka is aged over 80 years, even tending towards 90 years. For his age, some level of brain deterioration is not unexpected. His rhetoric and actions in recent times suggest of deteriorating brain disease, and as such he shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
What we should be worried about as well-meaning Nigerians is how his family and close friends can’t ward off agents of desperate politicians who are bent on exploiting his medical situation to their advantage, no matter how low it sinks the once respected Nobel Laureate."
