Comedian and actor, Basketmouth has revealed how Nigerian movie producers exploit streaming platforms by misusing funds allocated for quality movie productions.

He made this known during an interview on Arise Television.

Basketmouth explained that these producers only use around 10% of the funds to create the movie, while they spend the rest on purchasing houses, cars and flaunting wealth on social media.

According to Basketmouth, once the streaming platforms became aware of this behaviour, they decided to pay the actors directly.

However, the producers collude with the actors to request that half of the money be paid to them instead.

A disappointed Basketmouth bemoaned the actions of these individuals and called for an end to such practices.

He said, “There was a lot of money in the movie industry, when the streaming platforms came in. They gave money to these producers and I will tell you point blank.

These producers will take the money, the $1.5 million or whatever they give them, they use about 10 per cent of that money to make the movie. They are listening, they cannot deny it. I cannot call names, you know yourself. I’m not saying all of them, I’m saying most of them.

Even to the point where the streaming platforms stepped in and said they were going to be pay the actors directly.

These guys will still go behind them and tell the actors to pay half of that money back to them. You can verify this information anywhere.

When you do that and you expect your movie to be unreleased, its impossible. Once you are given $1.5 million to make a movie at least use everything. That’s where you will get quality. But these guys, they will buy houses, cars, it will show. And that’s why when you see some of our epic movies, they look like stage plays.”
