'My album is going to be the greatest Afrobeats album despite colleague stealing my idea' - Omah Lay

Nigerian singer Omah Lay has made a bold claim that his forthcoming album will be the greatest in the history of Afrobeats.

In an interview, he expressed his disappointment with the current state of the genre, stating that it has become overly commercialized and lacks the depth and meaning found in the music of legends like Bob Marley and 2Pac.

He shared that he had shared his album concept with a fellow artist, only to discover that the artist had stolen the idea and released their own album with the same concept.

This betrayal motivated Omah Lay to go back and refine his own project, resulting in what he believes will be a groundbreaking album.

With his upcoming album, Omah Lay aims to redefine Afrobeats and bring back the essence and social commentary that once characterized the genre.

He said: “My song ‘Holy Ghost’ is a new sound. I was going to make the whole album with the new sound but along the line, I changed my mind,” he said.

“I shared an idea with a certain artist and the artist went ahead and put out an album with my idea and I had to re-record my album.

“He came to me and I accepted for us to collaborate. Of course, it’s an artist that I love. And I told him where I’m headed with the sound. Five months later, he put out an album with exactly all the same sound that I shared with him.

“I had to go back and remake my album which is actually going to be the greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history.”
