Nigerian activist and content creator Adebowale Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has revealed that he grew brave following his incarceration in 2021.
Recall that many young Nigerians protested against the proposal to reopen the Lekki Tollgate after the massacre of the #EndSARS demonstrators there on October 20, 2020.
During a demonstration against the tollgate's reopening in February 2021, the Nigerian police arrested the content producer for disobeying a directive from the Lagos State government.
Mr Macaroni stated in his most recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo that his time in police jail had given him the courage and resolve to stand up for the oppressed.
He described his experience, saying that officers who enjoyed his misery stripped him nude and molested him.
He said, “I feel I should be involved because God has given me the platform today, not to be popular, but so that I can use the platform to speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves. How can I ask others to make sacrifices that I am not willing to make?
All the fear in me disappeared after that experience. That is the twist. It was after these guys tortured me that I saw the hate in their eyes and how angry they were.
The skit I made doesn’t do justice to what I experienced. I had to do it so that people could watch. I was completely naked. They stripped us naked, and I was molested. They were happy and mentioned names. They were saying I was disturbing some people.”
