A Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, has been arrested and detained for fabricating a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Smith, at a press conference on Tuesday, announced himself on social media as the new world record holder for a purported 820-hour 25-minute cook-a-thon, from February 1, 2024 to March 6, 2024.

Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith widely know as Chef Smith, has been arrested and placed under custody for creating a fake Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
During a press conference on Tuesday, July 2, Chef Smith declared himself on social media to have set a new world record for the longest cook-a-thon, which was rumoured to have lasted 820 hours and 25 minutes, between February 1, 2024, and March 6, 2024.
In an interview with the BBC, Alina Polianskaya, the Public Relations Executive for Guinness World Records, disputed Chef Smith's assertions, stating, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.
He added: “The current and true record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”
Currently holding the record for the most cooking hours is Irish chef Alan Fisher, who beat Nigerian chef Hilda Baci with a time of 119 hours and 57 minutes.
Recall that the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual became popular after Hilda Baci broke the record after she started cooking in May 2023. Many Africans, including Ghanaians registered their desire to set or break a record.
