In a poignant reflection, the late veteran actor Emmanuel France opened up about his feelings of inferiority compared to his colleagues, the legendary Olu Jacobs and his wife Joke Silva.
Speaking in a 2021 interview with MyNigeria TV that has resurfaced, the late veteran noted that he and many others felt inferior to Olu Jacobs when he moved to Nigeria from England to further his acting career.
According to Emmanuel France, this was because Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva seemed more westernized due to their years of studying and acting in England.
He expressed that they felt inferior to them in the movie industry because it seemed like they did not meet the standards set by Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva. He mentioned that their tone, diction, and demeanour were different from that of the other colleagues who had lived all their lives in Nigeria.
Praising the couple, Emmanuel France said, "They are good; they are very good."
He added, "Olu Jacobs and his wife came from England. They lived, studied, and acted there. Their diction was not typically Nigerian; it was more Western due to their extensive experience with white actors. They were superior, causing a sense of inferiority among us. They were better than some of us who were educated in Nigeria. We couldn't measure up to them."
