Social media was thrown into a frenzy during the weekend following paternity controversies that involved Afrobeats singer, Davido and his ex-lover and first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, who refused the joint custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke, filed by Davido.

Be reminded that Davido filed a lawsuit for joint custody of their daughter, Imade, just a few days before his traditional wedding with his now wife, Chioma Adeleke.

However, MyNigeria has gathered five pointers from the current joint custody tussle between singer Davido and his former romantic mate, Sophia Momodu.

Davido's lawsuit for joint custody

In June 2024, Davido filed a lawsuit for joint custody of his daughter, Imade, with his ex-partner Sophia Momodu, which sparked a legal battle between both parents. He claimed to have been responsible for his child's education, housing, transportation, living expenses, health care, and periodic travel in his court filing.

The joint custody Davido filed was to allow both parents to make decisions together and ensure the well-being of their child, giving her equal access to spend time with both parents.

Sophia's counter-affidavit

Sophia responded with a 102-paragraph counter-affidavit, contesting Davido's petition and citing concerns about his lifestyle and past incidents.

She accused Davido of neglecting their daughter, Imade Adeleke, and every financial support since their split in 2022, leaving her to cover school fees and other expenses on her own. She also noted that Davido's father had to step in to pay the outstanding school fees for the 2021/2022 term.

Dele Momodu's intervention

The case sparked public debate, with many fans and critics alike calling for a peaceful resolution that prioritizes the child's needs.

However, Sophia's uncle, Dele Momodu, has urged both parties to resolve the dispute amicably, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing Imade's well-being. But it seems, Sophia Momodu is seeking sole custody, which will grant her full legal control over their daughter, Imade.

Judging from Davido's tweet on Friday, July 5, 2024, it seems the singer would grant Sophia the sole custody of their daughter following the allegations she made against him in the court document.

Sophia and Israel DMW's sub

In a recent call, Sophia Momodu challenged Davido's aide, Israel DMW, over his unwavering support for Davido. Israel had called her out on social media, alleging that she is a "gold digger" for having a romantic relationship with a wealthy man much younger than herself.

Sophia questioned Israel's audacity to make such accusations, pointing out that he remained silent when Davido was allegedly mistreating their daughter, Imade. She urged Israel to stop spreading rumors about her on social media and to consider the consequences of his actions.
