British-Nigerian singer and rapper Oluwafisayo Isa, popularly known as Darkoo, recently discussed her friendship with fellow artist Ayra Starr. Darkoo described their bond as more sisterly than just a professional friendship.
During an appearance on the Uncut Podcast, Darkoo shared that while she has made
friends in the music industry, like Ayra Starr, she is not actively seeking new connections.
She expressed, “I have friends in the industry, but I'm not necessarily looking for industry friends, just genuine friendships. With Ayra Starr, I don’t see her as just a colleague; she's like a sister to me."
Darkoo emphasized that her friendship with Ayra is built on mutual respect and shared interests, allowing them to learn from each other.
She said, “We connect well because we have a lot in common, and I appreciate her respectful nature. She has a unique perspective on life that I admire. We learn from each other, and I value that dynamic.”
While Darkoo is friendly with many industry peers, she distinguishes between casual acquaintances and meaningful friendships.
She explained, “I interact with a lot of people in the industry, but not all of them are close friends. I’m sociable, but I understand the importance of genuine connections. Maintaining a healthy distance is crucial to avoid misunderstandings and disrespect.”
Recall that during an interview in July 2024, Ayra Starr was dared to Facetime a celebrity friend. When asked to call Tems, she said Tems barely answers her calls so she would call Darkoo rather.
In a lighthearted moment, Ayra Starr once called Darkoo during a show challenge.
Darkoo answered the call promptly, showing their close bond.
Their genuine friendship sparked a positive conversation among fans, appreciating the authenticity of their relationship.
