Bandits have reportedly stormed and attacked Zurak village in the Bashar District of Wase local government area of Plateau state.

It was noted that the 40 persons killed included vigilantes. According to residents, the incident occurred on Monday, May 19, 2024.

The residents stated that their failure to report the attack immediately to the nearest police station was due to the poor communication network in the area.

Sahpi’i Sambo, a youth leader in the area, confirming the incident, said the bandits arrived at the community on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons and started shooting.

“More than 40 people were killed, while many were injured. Residents of the village have fled to neighbouring communities for cover. As of yesterday, security personnel had not yet arrived at the community. It was deadly,” Sambo said.

Another resident, Hamza, said that Zurak village has long been overtaken by bandits.
