Reports indicate that a 31-year-old South African, Jaen-Lee Pyne, has been arrested for the murder of a Nigerian man, Uchenna Prince Ibeh, in Gauteng, South Africa.
Pyne appeared before the Brakpan Magistrates' Court on Friday, November 22, 2024, and was charged with premeditated murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In a statement issued, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the charges stemmed from an incident on the evening of May 4, 2024.
“It is alleged that Pyne and a companion met with four Nigerian men at the corner of Madley and Hamilton Street in Brakpan,” the statement read.
"During the encounter, an altercation ensued. Pyne reportedly drew a firearm and fired at the group, resulting in the death of Uchenna Prince Ibeh. The other three victims sustained injuries and managed to seek medical attention at a nearby hospital.
"Community members alerted the police, leading to the opening of a case.
"Pyne was arrested on November 18, 2024 at the Heidelberg Magistrates' Court, where he was appearing in connection with another case involving charges of murder and attempted murder.
“The matter has been postponed to December 2, 2024 for a formal bail application.”
