Reports indicate that the Anambra State Government has closed down a brothel, Happiness Guest House, located in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

The state government also rescued ten sex workers, including underage girls.

The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) enforcement team conducted the raid on Thursday, January 16, 2025, based on an intelligence report.

It was gathered that the brothel was housing underage sex workers, drug peddlers, armed robbers and other criminals.

According to the agency’s Managing Director, Celestine Anere, the agency initiated the operation after monitoring the location.

“This operation was carried out after an intelligence report showed that their illegal activities had aided all kinds of crimes, ranging from drug trafficking to underage s3x workers.

“The brothel is also a hideout for armed robbers and all sorts of criminal activities.

“We have vowed to ensure that the operators of the facility are arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others who might be running similar illegal activities in the state."
