The Petroleum Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria Nigeria (PETROAN) has given reasons to the delays in distributing petroleum products from the Port Harcourt refinery.

According to PETROAN, the delays were due to the poor state of the East-West Road.

The marketers decried the slow pace of work on the Eleme section of the road, adding that it was 'sabotaging petroleum product distribution' and the government's efforts to ensure reliable distribution from the rehabilitated facility.

Billy Gillis-Harry, the national president of the association, stated that more than 60 retail stations are impacted by the road's poor condition.

In a statement signed by PETROAN national publicity secretary, Joseph Obele, several tankers used the road to move fuel to petrol stations.

Gillis-Harry stated that the construction firm’s slow pace of work was hampering the government's efforts to distribute fuel smoothly from the Port Harcourt refinery.

“About 60 retail outlets are negatively impacted by the road construction.

"We request adequate compensation for the owners of those filling stations," he said.
