Reactions have trailed the viral video of old naira notes allegedly disposed of by
the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The now-viral video has generated an uproar on social media.

The shredded bundles of old naira notes included the N500 and N1000 denominations, which the Supreme Court recently ruled would continue circulating until December 31, 2023.

The man in the video was seen screaming: "They grind money, you see all this is money, the money I dey find"

Currency notes don't last forever. It's a usual practice of the CBN to mop up defaced, tattered notes from the economy, shred and/or incinerate them. More so, on this period of the naira re-design, this is to be highly expected.

The old must be disposed

U can’t hv old money n new money with same serial number in circulation

These are shredded old notes from federal reverse, when enough old bills have been collected, the Federal Reserve Banks will shred them if not someone else launder them.

Eyyaa sorry o. You wanted them to bag unfit and mutilated notes in bundles? Unfit notes are shredded and subsequently recycled so I don’t know what the purpose of this video is.
