NNPC needs proof to probe subsidy sleaze - Spokesperson

The Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC Ltd.), Femi Soneye, has said the organisation is ready to act swiftly against those who may have perpetrated subsidy sleaze.

Soneye made this known after an X user criticized the NNPC Ltd. for carrying out 1,000 free cataract extraction surgeries in Ogun and Lagos states to help Nigerians regain their sight and improve their quality of life.

According to the X user, @solomonapenja, "Fail abysmally at your core job then compensate with tokenism. NNPC should expiate for the years of subsidy sleaze, stem the tide of crude oil theft from Nigeria by their under-declaring, and then, fix the refineries so products are available for consumers at a much cheaper rate."

In response, Soneye urged the X user to come forward with proof of subsidy sleaze so that the NNPC Ltd. could act on it.

"If you have any proof of sleaze in NNPC Ltd, kindly bring it forward, and let’s see if we won’t act swiftly to bring those responsible to justice. Today’s NNPC has made outstanding strides in curbing oil theft and significantly improving production," he said.

He further stated that "restoring the sight of Nigerians through free cataract surgeries is not tokenism—it’s a direct investment in pressing health issues and the well-being of our people.

"Instead of being a pessimist, be a believer in our nation. We have moved past unnecessary debates; we are getting the job done!"
