The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has revealed that new developed General Multipurpose Card (GMPC) can cause economic growth and boost the lives of Nigerians.

According to her, the GMPC has many capabilities, which includes online and offline identity verification, financial, social inclusion, and biometric authentication, serving as a means of identification.

She further stated that the card was meant to solve issues in Nigeria, especially for the unbanked population, excluded from getting government and private sector services.

She said: “The advantage and beauty of this card is that it is not just a simple card with no functionality."

She concluded that users can instantly verify their identity, online and offline, and real-time financial services transactions. They can also use the GMPC to access government services as it bridges the gap between the government and the people.
