The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, has said the hardship Nigerians are currently facing is partly because of decades of irresponsible economic mismanagement.
According to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), most of what the country is going through was predictable and avoidable.
Sanusi spoke on Wednesday when he chaired the 2025 Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture celebrating the 21st anniversary of Fawehinmiism in Lagos.
On why he doesn't render assistance to the President Bola Tinubu administration, he said, “I don’t want to help this government. They’re my friends, if they don’t behave like friends, I don’t behave like a friend… They don’t even have people with credibility who can come and explain what they are doing. I’m not going to help!”
He urged the Tinubu administration to explain the benefits of the policies it is pursuing.
"Let them come and explain to Nigerians why the policies that are being pursued are being pursued. Meanwhile, I'm watching a very nice movie with popcorn in my hands.
"What we are going through today is at least in part a necessary consequence of decades of irresponsible economic mismanagement," he said.
