Cricova winery condoles with Orizu royal family

The historic 120km underground winery from the wine city of Cricova in Moldova extends its condolences to the Orizu royal family of Otolo Nnewi on the passing of their matriarch, Lolo Nwazunafia Orizu (Nee Mbelu), first wife of Igwe Dr. Kenneth Onyeneke Orizu (Orizu III), the supreme leader of Nnewi, the industrial nerve center of southeastern Nigeria.

The Orizu royal family, synonymous with history, produced the first Igbo man to own a pleasure car, Igwe Orizu I (Eze Ugbonyamba), whose son, Prince Akweke Nwafor Orizu, became the first Republic Senate President and Acting President of Nigeria. The present Igwe Nnewi is his grandson.

This remarkable achievement caught the attention of the world's biggest wine cellars and the second largest winery in the world, Cricova Winery. Through its Africa distributor, Don Pee Wine and Beverages Ltd., they led a strong team to the royal burial in Otolo Nnewi on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Guests and mourners were treated to the best hospitality with choice wines from Don Pee Wine and Beverages Ltd. It was a sight to behold.

Prince Azubuike Orizu (Ikukuoma), based in the United Kingdom and son of the deceased, received and hosted the Cricova-Don Pee team on behalf of the family, expressing gratitude for their kind gesture.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of Cricova premium brands XO, Crystal, and Amplius to the prince by the head of brand and communications for Cricova Africa, Obifaruk Madu. Prince Azubuike Orizu then officially presented the Cricova premium brands to his eldest brother and Crown Prince of Nnewi, Barrister Obi Orizu (Obi na eche ndu), who appreciated Cricova's hospitality during the burial.

The week-long burial ceremony, which began on Wednesday, October 23, holds significant cultural importance that the ingenious people of Nnewi are known for. Each day has special activities marking the passing of their beloved matriarch and queen.
