Lions take over tourist tracks

A picture taken by a ranger at South Africa's Kruger National Park showing the unlikely sight of a pride of lions sprawled out across a road usually packed with tourist vans, has been shared on Twitter.


Kruger visitors that tourists do not normally see. This lion pride are usually resident on Kempiana Contractual Park, an area Kruger tourists do not see. This afternoon they were lying on the tar road just outside of Orpen Rest Camp.


The famous park, like many other places in the country, has been shut down to the public.

South Africa is currently on a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.

More than 2,500 cases of the respiratory virus have been confirmed in the country.

Only essential services are being allowed to operate during the lockdown period, which was imposed on 24 March and recently extended until the end of April.
