Egypt has announced the restoration and reopening of the synagogue in Alexandria that fell into disrepair.

According to the BBC, at least. $4m (£3m) was spent t renovate the Eliyahu Hanavi synagogue is reported to have cost some.

The current building was constructed in the middle of the 19th Century, but the original synagogue had existed for hundreds of years.

It was also gathered that Alexandria once housed tens of thousands of Jews - but only a handful now remain.
