It is a well-known fact that out of the 54 countries in Africa, only South Africa has successfully hosted the FIFA World Cup, which took place in 2010.

However, Morocco is set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

This poses the question of when Nigeria will be ripe enough to host the prestigious tournament.

MyNigeria TV spoke with some Nigerian football fans at Labadi, Trade Fair, Accra, Ghana, to gauge their opinions on Nigeria’s chances of hosting the FIFA World Cup in the near future.

JPblaq, one of the fans who didn't want their names in print, believes that the primary issue preventing Nigeria from hosting a World Cup or even AFCON is not just the bid itself but rather the persistent problems of insecurity and power outages in the country.

He recalled the unfortunate incident during the Ghana vs. Nigeria World Cup qualifier match on March 29, 2022, when power went out during a training session.

He also expressed concerns about the risks of traveling between states to attend matches, particularly for those relying on road transport due to the country’s security challenges.

In his concluding remarks, he argued that the problem ultimately stems from the government’s inefficiencies.

Another fan pointed out that hosting a tournament as prestigious as the FIFA World Cup is ultimately FIFA’s decision.

He explained that FIFA would assess various factors, including the standardization of stadiums, road networks, security, transportation, and infrastructure.

If Nigeria meets the requirements, he believes the country could host the World Cup, provided it receives at least a 10-year notice to prepare.

Finally, another fan echoed similar sentiments, agreeing with the previous speakers.

He also praised Ghana’s security measures, emphasizing how well the country has managed to maintain a stable and secure environment.
