Former coach of VfL Bochum, Peter Neururer, has questioned Xabi Alonso's choice of center forward in their crucial Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich last weekend.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder opted for Nathan Tella in the starting lineup ahead of Victor Boniface and Patrik Schick.

Neururer believes the one-capped Super Eagles star is not as prolific as Boniface and Schick and that either of the two would have made a significant impact on the game, which ended goalless.

“An outstandingly good game, but only from one side. Because what Leverkusen conjured up was football at its finest,” he wrote in his column for Wettfreunde.net.

“What was Alonso thinking? He (Tella) had worked outstandingly against the ball at the front, but also missed several great chances. He remains with a meager goal this season.”

“I need people like Boniface, like Schick, who are dangerous in front of goal. I not only need the impulses that come from behind, but also those who then put these balls in.”
