EPL: Southampton boss hails Onuachu, Aribo after Ipswich win

Southampton head coach Ivan Juric has heaped praise on the Super Eagles duo of Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo following the Saints' victory away at Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

The Saints beat the Tractor Boys 2-1 in a crucial relegation encounter at Portman Road Stadium on Saturday, February 1.

Joe Aribo gave the away side the lead in the 21st minute before Liam Delap equalized for the home side 10 minutes later.

Paul Onuachu grabbed the winner with just three minutes left on the clock to secure Southampton's second win of the campaign.

It was the second goal for the lanky striker, who has been given a lot of confidence from the new boss since he took over the reins of the club.

Juric, in a post-match reaction, showered encomiums on the two Nigerian internationals alongside Ghana's Kamaldeen Sulemana.

“It’s a great feeling. I think we did some even better games than this game, like Manchester United, and didn’t take points. We suffered in a few moments, but the guys were great and we deserved it,” the coach told Southampton’s official website.

“It’s character because we defended well. We had problems with [Harwood-] Bellis, with Jack [Stephens], we had to make some changes, but I said we have quality, and the second goal is the quality of Deeno (Kamaldeen) and the quality of Paul [Onuachu].

“It was a great moment. He [Onuachu] deserved it because he worked hard. It’s his second goal, I think he can score more, but he worked hard for the team.”

“Joe [Aribo], for me, is a great guy; everything for the team. He doesn’t care if he is a forward, at the back, or in the middle. Today he played left centre-back and I think he did a great second half. We worked hard, really well, and Joe today was great,” the 49-year-old concluded.
